People talk by mobile in Bangladesh, but they don’t text

Mobile phone use in Bangladesh is very high, but most people only use their handsets to talk. They don’t send or receive many SMS messages. This might seem strange because over half of all adults in the country can read and write. 
But it is a fact that aid agencies should bear in mind when planning to use mobiles to communicate with local communities, especially during flood emergencies.

Local radio and mobile phones improve access to information for communities in south east Kenya

World Vision and infoasaid recently teamed up in Taita-Taveta County, south east Kenya to implement a communication project aimed at improving the delivery of World Vision’s food aid programme. The project also aims to improve the timeliness and efficiency of data collection from rural communities who are engaged in  World Vision’s Cash for Assets and Food for Assets programmes.

Save the Children launches radio and SMS initiative in NE Kenya

Infoasaid has helped Save the Children to improve its two-way communication with half a million drought-affected people in Northeast Kenya.

The project uses mobile telecommunications and community radio to establish new and faster channels of communication between the aid agency and remote rural communities.

Ann Kite Yo Pale - Best practice and lessons learned in communication with disaster affected communities: Haiti 2010

A new report published by infoasaid captures practical case studies and best practice in communications with affected communities during the 2010 responses in Haiti. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck the south of Haiti on January 12th 2010 triggered the largest humanitarian response since the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004. But the earthquake was unfortunately not the only serious emergency to strike Haiti in 2010. The outbreak of cholera in the town of St Marc on October 18th 2010 brought a new, highly infectious and deadly disease to a country with weak sanitation and health systems, and no knowledge of this illness.
